Lactobacillus strains are good bacteria that produce lactic acid in the vagina (this is the acid that keeps our pH level between 3.5 - 4.5 and prevents bad bacteria from overgrowing!). One study showed that taking Lactobacillus on a daily basis cured BV in 87.5% of women after only 4 weeks!
Bifidobacterium is another type of extremely beneficial & friendly bacteria. I found relief after years of suffering
My story is probably similar to yours - I started getting BV in my early 20s, I didnt know how to care for my vaginal health and tbh, I didnt really care. Pretty quickly, my BV became a chronic infection that kept coming after my period, every single month. I tried to get on BC to stop my period, which helped temporarily. I couldnt handle the mood swings so I got off BC, just to find out that my vagina was still not healed and that my BV returned. I lived like that for YEARS!
