Lactobacillus strains are good bacteria that produce lactic acid in the vagina (this is the acid that keeps our pH level between 3.5 - 4.5 and prevents bad bacteria from overgrowing!). Lactobacillus is the most studied strain of bacteria and has shown time after time its safety and effectiveness in fighting BV. One study showed that taking Lactobacillus on a daily basis cured BV in 87.5% of women after only 4 weeks!
Bifidobacterium is another type of extremely beneficial & friendly bacteria. One study found that "A combination of arabinogalactans (from larch tree) and probiotics may exert synergistic effects and increase the efficacy of the microbial strains included."

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is a prebiotic that occurs naturally in some plants, including garlic, onion, asparagus, bananas, and leeks. Skeptical at first, and ordered the 1 month supply. I noticed a gradual change in both my pH balance and vaginal area - less irritation and dryness. Although there's a significant change after taking these, there's occasional itchiness (possibly from something else?) here and there but not as much as before taking these probiotics. I noticed that after a few days of running out of these, the irritation and dryness came back. I will be ordering more and see how it goes from there!
